10 x 14 in - 25 x 36 cm Watercolor   Another 2 hour challenge painting but as you can see it was done quickly in not more that about 30 mins.
This is definitely one that looks better small and does not bare close scrutiny. The main bank of snow in the lane is far too weak and tentative.
This is the ref as supplied for the challenge. Many thanks to Slaya for pemisson to show it here.

10 x 14 in - 25 x 36 cm Watercolor   This marks a return to painting watercolor. While it requires a lot more thought, it is so much more instant, at least the way I paint it is. The freedom of washes and runs all are just so delightful.
I am pleased with this even though it may not work quite as well as I first thought. The strongly (and differently) painted figures are supposed to be balanced by the while area bottom right but they aren't really. The red is only found in that one area but even so I just like the way it screams watercolor.
This is the reference that I was looking at while I painted. The photo was taken last year in New York.

New York Corner

16 x 12 in - 40 x 30 cm Acrylic   I am coming to see that I keep painting "on the edge". That is 'on the edge' of my level of technique and understanding. I used to believe that painting would soon "get easier". I now can see that, it will never be like that. I keep moving what I paint and keep ending up balanced on the edge of failure or success.
This is very close to failing. The idea is to give the feel of that Corner of a New York street. In fact all my paintings are trying to do that. Trying to get a feel of what it was like, would be like to be there seeing that sight.
This is the ref I took in New York last year. I have shown more than I painted because that is what I was looking at while I painted.

16 x 12 in - 40 x 30 cm Acrylic   This is another 2 hour challenge painting. This one came off about as well as I could have wished for. The intent is to get the boats and other items painted with deliberate brush stokes and to have the brush strokes show.
Painted straight to the board without any drawing which means the time limit is not a issuse.
This is the ref after cropping.
